Service overview

A Petra photographer who knows where the light lands

Petra rewards timing more than any other site in Jordan. The Siq is a slot canyon that only opens to direct light for a narrow window each morning, and the Treasury’s sandstone shifts from shadowed rose to full amber gold within an hour of sunrise. This session is built around that window — a private, local photographer who works ahead of the crowds and knows exactly where to stand at the Siq’s mouth to frame the Treasury cleanly.

Whether it’s a proposal at the Treasury, a couples or family session against the canyon walls, or a solo portrait series through Petra’s ruins, we plan the route and timing around your group and the shots you’re actually after — not a generic tour add-on.

Zoor Tours is based in Wadi Musa, the town at Petra’s entrance — not a branch office visiting from Amman for the day. That means we know the guards’ schedules, which trails are quiet on a given morning, and when Petra by Night is worth building into your session.

The Treasury forecourt clears of crowds for roughly twenty to thirty minutes right after the Siq opens. That’s the window this session is built around.

Friction points

What goes wrong when travelers try to shoot Petra themselves

Crowds at the Treasury

By mid-morning, the forecourt fills with tour groups, making a clean, uncluttered photo almost impossible without early access.

Unfamiliar light and timing

Visitors without local knowledge often arrive after the Siq’s morning light window has already closed, missing the shot Petra is known for.

No one to shoot the moment

Group selfies and tripod shots can’t capture a proposal, a candid walk through the Siq, or a properly composed portrait against the facade.

Frequently asked

Answers that help you plan your session

What is the best time of day for a Petra photography session?
Early morning, right at Petra’s opening time, gives the best light at the Siq and the clearest Treasury forecourt before tour groups arrive. Late afternoon offers a second, warmer light window for other parts of the site.
Can you photograph a proposal or engagement at the Treasury?
Yes. Proposal and engagement sessions at the Treasury are one of our most requested shoots — we plan the timing and positioning in advance so the moment is captured cleanly.
How long does a session take?
Most sessions run 1.5 to 3 hours depending on how many locations you want covered — the Siq and Treasury alone, or an extended route toward the Royal Tombs or the Monastery.
Do we need separate Petra entrance tickets?
Yes, Petra site entrance is separate from the photography session itself. We can advise on tickets and the Jordan Pass as part of planning your visit.
Can you shoot during the Petra by Night candlelight event?
Yes. Petra by Night runs on select evenings and requires advance arrangement, since tripods and positioning are limited. We plan for it separately from the daytime session.
Can this be combined with a Petra tour or package?
Yes. The session pairs naturally with our multi-day Petra tours, or it can be booked as a standalone add-on to your Petra visit.
